ABOUT ZARA
Zara Barrie is the critically acclaimed author of GIRL, STOP PASSING OUT IN YOUR MAKEUP: THE BAD GIRL'S GUIDE TO GETTING YOUR SH*T TOGETHER, and former Senior Writer for Elite Daily and Executive Editor of GO Magazine. Zara worked as a professional actress before discovering her love of directing and quickly scored a full-time job as the assistant director of "The Source Teen Theatre" — one of the most esteemed youth outreach programs in the country. During her tenure at "The Source Theatre," Zara directed ten original plays and taught voice, speech, acting, and movement to high-risk teens all over the country. Inspired by her experience, she began to speak candidly about hot-button youth issues, such as bullying, addiction, eating disorders, and self-esteem for thousands of audiences of all ages, everywhere from black tie affairs in California, to detention centers in rural Florida, to political conferences in Washington D.C., to public schools in New York City. She quickly discovered the life-changing power of storytelling and began to write her raw talks down in a blog, hoping to make them as accessible as possible. This is what led her to the offices of Elite Daily in New York City, where she took on her first job as a full-time Staff Writer.

"Sex and the City's
grittier younger sister,"
At Elite Daily Zara hosted her own talk show, spearheaded their first LGBTQ+ vertical, and cultivated a deep connection with her dedicated readership of millennial women. One of the most recognizable and honest voices on the internet, with thousands of viral essays and tens of millions of page views under her belt, in 2020 she wrote her first book: GIRL, STOP PASSING OUT IN YOUR MAKEUP, to much critical acclaim. She also created, produced, and voice-acted in the wildly-popular GIRLS ON JANE, a serialized, fictional audio drama. Anna David, New York Times best-selling author and TV personality, recently described Zara to ABC News as "Sex and the City's grittier younger sister" and Candice Jalili author of the highly anticipated "Making Mashad" (Disney-Hyperion) recently told the press, "If Cat Marnell and F. Scott Fitzgerald had a literary baby, it would be Zara Barrie. She’s got Marnell’s casual, dark, downright hilarious tone of an irreverent party girl. But then she also has Fitzgerald’s talent for making words literally feel like they sparkle on the page."
An out lesbian, Zara is proud to be a founding board member of The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, a non-profit empowering LGBTQ youth in rural America. She had the honor of speaking alongside Chelsea Clinton during their kickoff event honoring the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
